Biography
Prof. Vladimír Šucha has over 30 years of experience bridging scientific research and evidence-based policymaking. His expertise focuses on evidence-informed policy, innovation ecosystems, and the impact of technology on society and education.
Key positions:
• Head of European Commission Representation in Slovakia (until 2024)
• Senior Policy Advisor, UNESCO (2021)
• Advisor to the Prime Minister of Slovakia (2021)
• Director-General, European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (2012-2019)
• Director, European Commission, DG Education and Culture (2006-2012)
Academic achievements:
• Doctor of Science degree
• Full Professor at Comenius University, Bratislava
• Author of over 100 peer-reviewed publications
• Recent works: “Humans and Societies in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” and “Science for Policy Handbook”
Prof. Šucha has led major organizational transformations in several institutions, contributed to international AI ethics recommendations, and advised on education reform and innovation policy. He combines leadership skills with the ability to translate complex research into actionable policy recommendations.
He remains active in several professional organizations and scientific boards.
